Frequently Asked Questions

You do not need a referral to see a psychologist. However, to be eligible to obtain the Medicare rebates, you will require a referral from your GP. 

Under the Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP), a Medicare rebate of AU$131.65 per session is available for up to 20 sessions (i.e., 10 under the Better Access scheme, and an additional 10 under the Better Access Pandemic Support measure upon review from your GP) per calendar year. 

Under the Eating Disorder Plan, a Medicare rebate of AU$131.65 per session is available for up to 40 sessions per calendar year. 

Sessions are about 55-minutes in length. 

Fees are payable at the end of each session by cash or credit/debit card (Visa and MasterCard). If you are claiming the Medicare rebate, this can be processed on the day, provided a GP referral letter has been sent by your GP. 

If you have private health insurance, you may be eligible to receive a rebate. Please contact your private health insurer for details. Please know that you cannot claim a Medicare rebate and private health insurance for the same appointment.  

 Psychological reports, letters, and forms completed outside of sessions are charged separately based on the hourly rate and attract a GST component. 

 Reminders are sent before your scheduled appointment. If you are unable to attend your appointment, please call or email as soon as possible. 

We ask for a minimum of 48 hours notice for any cancellations, so that people on a cancellation list can be given the opportunity to fill the appointment. If you cancel and do not attend on the day of the scheduled appointment, you will be required to pay the full fee for your session. 

Please note that Medicare does not cover cancellation fees or fees for services that you do not attend.
